It's your wedding day. You're in a couture dress, you look exquisite. It's that moment before sunset, and you're gliding through a quintessentially British meadow, in the timelessly beautiful Lake District. Except you're not. You're in one of the most iconic and historically fascinating buildings in London; in the world: Kensington Palace. This is not a dream. This is a Hayford & Rhodes wedding.
When Historic Royal Palaces approached us to come up with a concept for their wedding showcase in November 2018, Managing Director Joanna Rhodes went back to her roots, growing up in the beautiful British countryside.
“Using the Historic Royal Palaces ethos of 'our canvas, your creation', our vision was to utilise the space in an unstructured, free-form, design. We wanted to bring inside a quintessentially English countryside feel, with a lofty, floral backdrop consisting of centrepieces of rolling hills of flowers. We wanted the peaks to rise softly from the soft gold reflective runway, so it feels like the bridal models are almost walking upon water amongst our floral dreamland. As I sketched the concept, I thought of that soft, golden moment just before the sun sets, whilst taking a walk in The Lake District.”
A three-month process culminating in a 10-hour installation on-site with a full team of 10 florists, our flowers arrived from Holland at Kensington Palace in a cavalcade of four trucks, bringing (literally!) mountains of foliage, grasses and flowers, including Delphinium, Achillea, Wax Flower, David Austin Patience roses, Spray Roses, Eucharis, berried Ivy, Heracleum, dried sheathes of Barley, Asparagus Fern and Fountain Grass.
Wild and undone, our floral installation cast an ethereal, enchanted and dream-like spell; captivating, inspiring and utterly unique to Kensington Palace.
The Events team at Historic Royal Palaces brought together a collaborative of the finest weddings and events companies, including caterers Blue Strawberry, entertainment from Sternberg Clark, lighting design, audio and visual masterminds Wise Productions, wedding department store The Wedding Gallery, furniture from Great Hire, calligraphy from Ananya Cards, with all images and filmography from byLumiere.
